Resistance

I have been feeling some resistance lately, I can feel it in my body. The block that is stopping me from moving forward. There are action steps I know I need to take, but I just can’t. The thoughts that have been popping into my head are a range from the whiney, “I don’t want to” to “It takes so much work and effort to do this action for very little reward/traction” to “Do I really want this? Is it worth all of this effort?”

The truth is I want the end result. But it doesn’t stop the normal human feelings, emotions, thoughts, patterns and beliefs to rise there ugly heads, seeming to stop the progress and forward movement. So I have tuned into my body and felt what is going on. It feels like stuckness, like I want to progress but then there is also a sense of stubbornness/resistance or a wall of fear, or being stuck in concrete preventing me from doing the things I know I need to do. What does it feel like to you? How does this feeling show up for you?

So how to move past the resistance? Well first we must understand what the resistant/block/stubbornness is trying to tell us? There is always a reason why something is occurring. Always! It is up to us to understand why we have this feeling/thought going on within us. What is it preventing? What is it trying to tell us? Do we keep trying to push the proverbial ice wall that is sitting there? Maybe you have a different thought/image/sense/symbol of how this is representing for you. In this instance, for me it is showing a ice wall. This to me is symbolising I am frozen in the spot, perhaps frozen in fear of making this forward movement. Instead of trying to push, take a moment to breath and ask what this resistance/block is trying to let you know.

Perhaps I may need to push a physical wall to release the tension I have brewing inside my body, doing this with some breathing will help me to release some of this tension. Making a grunting sound whilst pushing against the wall could also help me shift some of the verbal tension I have. Sit with the feeling, sensation, thought. What is the fear trying to bring to your awareness.

If resistance has popped up for you today, it may be asking you to look at what you fear from this action. The emotion that I am resisting feeling is likely a huge clue to what is going on. When I tune into this part of me, I can feel some frustration, some anger, perhaps a little rage that I want to scream into. These are all perfect emotions and each one has a learning, a story to tell, about we have going on inside of us. Our internal world is the key to our external world.
